Sig Sauer has recently posted the MCX-SPEAR in semi automatic as available for sale on their website as a special production run. This version is meant to be as close as possible to what Sig Sauer submitted to the US Army’s NGSW program. It has a 13 inch barrel with a 1:7 inch twist rate and is chambered in the new 277 Fury cartridge and comes with the new SLX Lo-Tox suppressor. This implies that any US customer would need to file for two NFA stamps before they could take the rifle home. The rifle weighs in at 8.4 lb and comes with a match trigger. Sig has also released the rifle in an FDE style color scheme. The MSRP is listed at $7,999.99, more information is available at Sig Sauer’s Website.
While Sig’s 277 Fury round is not widely available there may still be hope for people hoping to fire this rifle after purchase. Supposedly the SPEAR is easily convertible between .308 Winchester derivatives so customers might see .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel options being delivered once the rifle is in full scale production. The staff at Tzintzuntzan Tactical are interested in whether this marks the adoption of Sig’s NGSW entry by the US Army or if, like many military programs, the rifle is being released onto the market to help recoup costs after being out competed.
