British Police End Hostage Standoff in Coventry

After five days a hostage situation in the city of Coventry was ended by local police. A man who has not yet been identified had barricaded himself along with an eight year old boy in an apartment. The police had been attempting to negotiate with the hostage taker before deciding that the situation was no longer tenable. The man was taken into custody and the child is said to be recovering with family members. The incident began after a welfare check.

Interestingly it seems that the Coventry police are using Sig Sauer Sig 516 rifles. While they are known to be accurate and reliable weapon systems it is an odd choice as Sig Sauer officially ended production of the Sig 516 line in 2020. Whether or not Sig will continue to support units with Sig 516s or whether they will attempt to upsell them the MCX is anyone’s guess.
