Armed groups in Libya are mobilizing inside the capital ahead of the presidential election. In addition the prime minister’s office was surrounded by armed militia after a military officer was dismissed. The election is being held by the UN recognized government in Tripoli on December 24th, though there are doubts as to whether the government will go through with it. Libya has been at war since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 with various factions vying for power including the former commander of the Libyan armed forces Khalifa Haftar who has received support from the secretive Russian Wagner Group.
